시는 기록이고 이야기이고 역사다. 그럼 목판화는 무엇일까? 그리고 예술의 창작 동기는 어디서 발원하는 것일까? 머릿속에 또는 마음의 한 가운데에 몽글몽글 맴도는 그것, 쓰지 않고는 견딜 수 없는 그 무엇, 그것을 예술가들은 시로 또는 그림으로 형상화한다.전혜옥은 이야기꾼이다. 그림 한 점을 놓고 끊임없이 이야기를 서술한다. 일상적으로 사용 후 쉽게 버려지는 플라스틱이 인류의 건강을 위협한다는 이야기며, 꽉 틀어막은 새만금 방조제의 역기능에 대해 열변한다. 그림 한 점에서 미래를 예언하고 과거의 많은 담론을 펼쳐낸다.

Poetry is a record, a story, and history. So what is woodblock printing? And where does the motivation for artistic creation come from? It originates from something that floats in the mind or the very center of the heart, something that one cannot endure without expressing. Artists shape that intangible essence into poetry or paintings. Jeon Hye-ok is a storyteller. She constantly narrates stories through each of her paintings. She passionately discusses how everyday plastic, which is easily discarded after use, poses a threat to human health, and she vehemently critiques the negative effects of the tightly sealed Saemangeum seawall. From a single painting, she predicts the future and unfolds many discourses of the past.
