『청호靑湖 바람』
푸른 호수와 같이 맑은 자연생태계를 갖추어 ‘청호靑湖’라고 불리었던 항구도시 목포지역의 옛 명칭을 모티브로 한다. 자연생태계를 복원해야 하는 회복과 치유의 장을 필요로 하는 ‘바램(바람)’을 요구받는다. 그리고 정체된 교류를 확장하기 위해 전통과 실험이 공존하는 예술현장이 되어 새로운 바람New Wave이 불어오기를 바란다.
바다와 인접한 자연 생태계 환경이 자리해있다. 목포시 연안 지역에서 이루어지는 『청호靑湖 바람』 전시의 생태계는 지역과 연관된 구성요소들 간에 상호작용의 구조를 갖는다. 감염의 시대에 삶 속에서 면역력을 증강해나가야 하는 전 인류의 시의성을 나타내고자 하며, 서남권 바다에 인접한 전라남도 목포시의 우수한 지역자원을 생태주의 관점으로 보고자 한다.
극복해나가는 지역예술의 현장과 국제예술 교류의 장으로서 하이브리드 용광로가 되는 현장이 될 것이다.
*전이지대(transition zone)
목포의 앞바다는 풍요롭고 아름다운 환경으로 '청호(靑湖)'라는 이름으로 불렸다. 영산강과 서해 그리고 남해가 섞이던 청호는 간척과 하구둑의 축조 이후 선명한 경계로 구분되어지고 고립되었다. 소통과 다양성이 가득한 전이지대(transition zone)는 척박하고 고립되어갔고, 수많은 어종과 생물들처럼 사람들도 삶을 위해 고향을 버리고 떠나가기 시작했다. 물과 사람들처럼 풍요롭던 이곳의 예술문화 역시 개방성을 잃으며 점점 그 기력을 잃어갔다.
본 전시는 이러한 배경 속에서 자연생태계와 문화생태계에 대한 회복과 치유를 필요로 하는 '바램(바람)'으로 분湓하였다. 이번 전시는 정체된 목포예술현장의 교류를 확장하기 위한 새로운 바람(new wave)이 되어 하구둑 이전의 청호처럼 전이지대(transition zone)로써 전통과 실험이 공존하고 생명력이 넘치는 계기가 되길 희망한다.
『New Wave In The Blue Lake』
The exhibition titled "New Wave In The Blue Lake: 청호(靑湖) 바람" takes its inspiration from the historical name "Cheongho," which referred to the port city of Mokpo, known for its pristine natural ecosystem, symbolized by a clear blue lake. The exhibition emphasizes the need for restoration and healing of natural ecosystems, reflecting the collective desire for renewal ("baram," meaning "hope" or "wind" in Korean). The aim is to revitalize stagnant cultural exchanges, creating an artistic environment where tradition and experimentation coexist, thereby ushering in a "New Wave."
Located in the coastal region of Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, the exhibition's ecosystem will reflect the intricate interactions among elements related to the region. It seeks to address the current global context, emphasizing the importance of enhancing immunity in the era of pandemics. Through an eco-centric lens, it highlights the exceptional local resources of Mokpo, aiming to showcase the resilience of regional art and to serve as a hybrid melting pot for international art exchanges.
*Transition Zone
The waters off the coast of Mokpo were once abundant and beautiful, known by the name "Cheongho (靑湖)." Cheongho was a transitional zone where the Yeongsan River, the Yellow Sea, and the South Sea merged, fostering a rich and diverse environment. However, after the construction of dikes and land reclamation, this area became distinctly separated and isolated. The vibrant transitional zone, once teeming with life and diversity, grew barren and desolate. Just as many species of fish and other life forms were forced to abandon their native habitat for survival, so too did the people, leaving behind their hometowns. Over time, the once-thriving arts and culture of this region lost their openness and vitality.
This exhibition arises from a collective "hope (baram)," or wind, for the restoration and healing of both the natural and cultural ecosystems. It seeks to become a "new wave" that revitalizes the stagnant Mokpo arts scene, transforming it into a transitional zone where tradition and experimentation coexist, much like Cheongho before the construction of the dikes. The goal is to create a space brimming with life and energy.
